We are very pleased to welcome you and your child to Year 4. We have an exciting year ahead, full of new learning opportunities, challenges and achievements. Throughout the year, we look forward to working alongside you to support your child as they continue to develop their confidence, independence and love of learning.
Our yearly curriculum overview, available on this page, gives you an idea of the areas of study we will be exploring throughout Year 4.
While this provides a guide to the year ahead, our curriculum may occasionally be adapted to make the most of school events, celebrations and other learning opportunities.
If you, or someone you know, has knowledge or experience linked to any of our topics, we would love to hear from you. Visits and video calls with people who can share their experiences are a wonderful way to enrich the children's learning and bring our topics to life.
Children should come to school wearing their school PE kit on PE days. Wearing their PE kit for the whole day helps us to make the most of our lesson time.
PE days may change throughout the year due to timetabling, sporting events and other school activities. Current PE days and any changes will be communicated to families via Class Dojo.
Alongside regular homework activities, children will be given a larger project task each half term, providing an opportunity to explore and extend their learning at home.
Reading continues to be a priority in Year 4. Every child will be provided with a reading book and reading record, which should be brought to school each day. We encourage children to read daily at home to help develop their fluency, comprehension and enjoyment of reading.
We also warmly welcome parents, carers or family members who may be able to spare some time in the afternoons to hear children read in school. If this is something you would be interested in, please contact us via Class Dojo.
We love celebrating children's achievements, both in and out of school. If your child receives a certificate, award or badge outside school, please encourage them to bring it in so that we can celebrate their success together.
We also enjoy learning more about the children's lives and interests beyond the classroom. Families are welcome to share photographs of special activities, pets, hobbies or other things that are important to their child.
Class Dojo is our main platform for communication between school and home. Please check it regularly to keep up to date with important messages and information.
You can use Class Dojo to contact the class team with any questions or concerns, share photographs and achievements from home, and upload homework through your child's portfolio.
Throughout the week, we will also use Class Dojo to share some of the learning taking place in Deer Class. It is a lovely way for families to stay connected with what the children are doing in school and celebrate their successes with us.
