Year 3

Welcome to Rabbit Class with Mr Dawes (M) and
Miss Hickman (T-F)

Supported by Mrs Jones and Mrs Dews

Year 3 marks an exciting step into Key Stage 2. Throughout the year, we will support children as they become increasingly confident and independent learners, while creating a calm, positive and inclusive classroom where every child feels valued and encouraged to achieve their best.

We look forward to working closely with families to make Year 3 a happy, successful and enjoyable year of learning.

Our Curriculum

Throughout the year, children will explore a broad and engaging curriculum across all subject areas. You can find our yearly curriculum overview on this page, showing the topics and areas of learning covered in Rabbit Class.

Our curriculum may occasionally be adapted to make the most of school events, celebrations and other learning opportunities. If you, or someone you know, has knowledge or experience linked to one of our topics, we would love to hear from you. Visitors who can share their experiences are a wonderful way to enrich the children's learning and bring our topics to life.

Uniform and PE

Children are expected to wear the correct school uniform and PE kit. Please ensure that all items of clothing and belongings are clearly named so that they can be returned if misplaced.

Only plain stud earrings and a watch may be worn to school, and these must be removed for PE. Long hair should be tied back and hair accessories should be in school colours. Make-up and nail varnish should not be worn.

If you require any support with obtaining school uniform, please contact the school office. Reasonable adjustments to our uniform policy will be considered where appropriate.

PE days may change throughout the year due to timetabling, sporting events and other school activities. Current PE days and any changes will be communicated to families via Class Dojo.

Reading at Home

Regular reading at home plays an important part in helping children become confident and independent readers. We ask families to read with their child at least four times across the week, spending around ten minutes reading together and recording each read in their child's reading record.

Where appropriate, children will join the Accelerated Reader programme after completing an initial assessment. This helps us identify a suitable reading level for each child and ensures that the books they choose provide an appropriate level of challenge.

After finishing an Accelerated Reader book, children complete a short online quiz to check their understanding. This allows us to monitor their progress, celebrate their achievements and support them as they continue to develop their reading fluency and comprehension.

Further information about Accelerated Reader will be shared with families when children are ready to begin using the programme.

Homework

Children will receive a Homework Menu each half term, containing a range of activities linked to their learning in school. These activities provide opportunities for children to explore their topics further and share their learning from home.

Children will receive 5 Dojo Points for each completed piece of homework.

Keeping in Touch

Class Dojo is our main platform for day-to-day communication between school and home. We use it to share important messages and reminders, celebrate achievements and provide updates about the learning taking place in Rabbit Class.

Parents and carers can also use Class Dojo to contact the class team with questions or concerns, share photographs and achievements from home, and upload homework through their child's portfolio.

Please check Class Dojo regularly so that you can keep up to date with important information and enjoy seeing some of the wonderful things the children have been learning.

By working together, we can help every child to feel happy, supported and inspired throughout their time in Rabbit Class.

We look forward to sharing an exciting year of learning with you!
