Year 6 is an exciting and important final year at primary school. Throughout the year, children will be encouraged to become increasingly independent, responsible and confident learners as they build on everything they have learnt during their time at Cleobury Mortimer Primary School.
We have a busy and rewarding year ahead, with plenty of opportunities for children to challenge themselves, celebrate their achievements and prepare for the next stage of their education.
Throughout Year 6, children will explore a broad and engaging curriculum across all subject areas. You can find our yearly curriculum overview on this page, showing the topics and areas of learning covered throughout the year.
Alongside developing children's knowledge and skills, we encourage them to ask questions, think independently, make connections between their learning and take increasing responsibility for their own progress.
Children should come to school wearing their school PE kit on PE days. Please ensure that PE kit follows our school uniform policy and that all items of clothing are clearly named.
PE days may change throughout the year due to timetabling, sporting events and other school activities. Current PE days and any changes will be communicated to families via Class Dojo.
In Year 6, children will receive a compulsory piece of English or Maths homework each week. This provides an opportunity to practise and consolidate learning from the classroom and will be reviewed together in school.
Children will also receive an optional homework project each half term, linked to an upcoming curriculum topic. These projects are designed to spark children's interest and enthusiasm and give them an opportunity to explore their new topic before and alongside their learning in school.

Reading remains a key priority in Year 6, and children are expected to read at home at least four times each week.
Regular reading supports far more than fluency. It helps children to develop their vocabulary, comprehension and understanding, while supporting their learning right across the curriculum.
Please record your child's reading on their Class Dojo profile, including the name of the book and a brief comment about their reading.
Spellings will be shared each week through Class Dojo and should be practised regularly at home.
A secure and fluent recall of multiplication and division facts also continues to be extremely valuable in Year 6. We recommend that children use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) around four times each week to keep these important skills sharp.
Please ensure that all of your child's belongings, particularly jumpers and cardigans, are clearly named. Children should also bring a bottle of water and a healthy snack for breaktime each day.
School uniform, including PE kit, should follow our school uniform policy.
Class Dojo is our main platform for communication between school and home. Homework, spellings, letters, reminders, important information and celebrations will all be shared there, so please check it regularly.
Class Dojo can also be used to contact the class team if you have a question or need to let us know something. We really value open communication between home and school and are always happy to help.
